Established in 1970, Brokenwood Wines has evolved from a weekend venture for self-professed hobby winemakers into one of Australia’s most reputable wine labels.
Brokenwood was founded by a trio of Sydney-based solicitors, Tony Albert, John Beeston and James Halliday, who paid a then record price of $970 per acre for a 10-acre block in the foothills of the Brokenback Ranges. The original block was destined to be a cricket ground for the local community but was instead planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
When I planted the Pothana vineyard in the early 1980’s, I selected sites on the family grazing property that I believed would provide consistent quality and individual style, character and integrity. The accumulated knowledge and experience gained over time has resulted in wines with outstanding regional and varietal characters that reflect their place of origin and the vintage.
Our lovely stone-fronted Cellar Door in the Hunter Valley is an excellent place to get a feel for the diversity and quality of our range and the flavours of the region. Our two welcoming Cellar Door managers have more than 50 years experience in the food and wine industry between them and so are well qualified not just to pour you a great taste of wine but to have an entertaining chat with you about it too.
Australia’s first boutique winery, Lake’s Folly was established by Doctor Max Lake and his family in 1963. Still family-owned more than 50 years later, Peter and Lee Fogarty and family, along with winemaker Rod Kempe, continue to maintain the quality and integrity of this significant vineyard. Our two flagship wines—a Cabernet blend and a Chardonnay—are produced in limited quantities and are grown, vintaged and made on the Estate.
Great wine takes time and patience. At Lambloch Estate we have carefully chosen plots of mature vines that are able to give greater concentration of flavour and structure than those made from young vines. But vine age is only part of the story. Great wines also come from well-chosen vineyard sites.

Our trophy-winning wines are not just for judging, they are first and foremost for drinking! Leogate Estate aims to create wines of excellent quality which can be enjoyed now or laid down for an enhanced tasting experience.

Peterson House was born from the vision of Ian Peterson, who, in his early years felt it necessary to celebrate each grand child’s birth with a special wine. When his first grand daughter was born, he thought it fitting to produce his own sparkling wine, however soon discovered that no-one in NSW was commercially producing sparkling wine in small volumes. So Mr. Peterson leaped across the borders to South Australia to have his sparkling wine made; in what was the beginning of a journey of bubbles.
Tamburlaine was established in 1966 by Dr Lance Allen. In 1985 the winery was purchased by a small group of friends and relatives led by Managing Director and Chief Winemaker, Mark Davidson.
